Who are we?

The bereavement research Group of Utrecht University consists of the following people.

Margaret Stroebe
Margaret Stroebe
is professor of Bereavement and Loss at Utrecht University on behalf of the Landelijke Stichting Rouwbegeleiding in the Netherlands. Margaret Stroebe is the leader of this research project. Former research subjects of Margaret Stroebe were interactive coping of couples after the loss of a child, prenatal loss, the effects of grief therapy and counseling and theoretical analyses of grief and patterns of attachment and loss.

Jan van den Bout
Jan van den Bout
is professor of Clinical Psychology and former chairman of the department Clinical and Health Psychology at Utrecht University. Previous research by Jan van den Bout was focused on emotional problems after loss and traumatic events. He is a psychotherapist and a cognitive behavioral therapist and works at the clinic for ambulant psychotherapy of the faculty of Social Sciences at Utrecht University. He is the former President of the Dutch Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies (VGCt) and current president of the European Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies, an umbrella organization of 44 associations in 31 European countries.
Margaret Stroebe
Henk Schut
is associate professor of Clinical Psychology at the department Clinical and Health Psychology at Utrecht University. The research interests of Henk Schut are bereavement and coping with stressful life-events. Former research subjects of Henk Schut were the interactive coping of parents after the loss of a child, the effects of psychological interventions in bereavement processes and the effects of expression of emotions.
Paul Boelen
Paul Boelen
is professor at the department of Clinical and Health psychology at Utrecht University. He works as a clinical psychologist and psychotherapist at the clinic of the Faculty of Social Sciences at Utrecht University. His research is focused on the measurement, theory and cognitive behavioral therapy of complicated grief in children and adults.
Wolfgang Stroebe
is professor of Social Psychology at the department of Social and Organisational Therapy at Utrecht University. Apart from research into partner loss, homesickness and health, he also did research on various subjects such as stereotypes, prediction of eating behavior and prediction of group productivity. Currently, Wolfgang Stroebe supervises multiple research projects.
Maarten Eisma
Maarten Eisma
is the executive researcher of this project. He works as a PhD student at the department of Clinical and Health Psychology at Utrecht University. The current study is a part of his PhD research project into the role of thoughts after the loss of a loved one.
